Serving at St. Barnabas

Administration and Support

OFFICERS AND VESTRY

The officers of the parish and the members of Vestry (the parish governing board) are lay people elected to lead the parish. Their role is defined by the canons (laws of governance) of The Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Church in Colorado, and the by-laws of St. Barnabas Parish. See our current Vestry.

Standing Committees of the Vestry

Standing committees of the Vestry are committees of four to six parishioners that plan and oversee the work of the congregation on behalf of the Vestry. As such they report directly to the Vestry. In addition to a chairperson and ex officio members (primarily staff support) each committee has a Vestry Liaison responsible for reporting to the Vestry.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the physical plant based on need.

CARING COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for overseeing the pastoral care of the parish, maintaining the parish prayer list, scheduling and overseeing lay eucharistic ministers (LEMs), and other activities related to the emotional and spiritual well-being of parish members.

COMMUNITY LIFE COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for parish fellowship opportunities.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for the annual parish audit, preparing monthly financial statements for the Vestry and annual financial statements for the Annual Meeting, and preparing the yearly budget.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for hands-on, palpable assistance to people in need.

SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for helping the congregation identify and address, from a Christian perspective, societal systems that do not promote equity and justice.

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for the design and implementation of the annual pledge campaign, for developing a planned giving strategy, and for the development of a comprehensive strategy of sharing time and treasure with the congregation.

WORSHIP AND THE ARTS COMMITTEE

A standing committee of the Vestry responsible for the overall planning and evaluation of worship in the parish. The committee oversees the following ministries:

Acolytes: Serve as crucifers, candlelighters, Altar Servers, and Chalice Bearers for all services of the church.

Altar Guild: Prepare and set-up prior to the Eucharist, and clean-up afterward.

Audio-Visual: Set-up and operate the sound system and live-stream for church services.

Choir: Parishioners who practice, perform, and lead the congregation in song during worship.

Lectors and Intercessors: Parishioners who read the Scriptures and lead the Prayers of the People during church services.
