Children

Worship - At St Barnabas children of all ages are always welcome to worship with our congregation in both services. There are ‘Busy Baskets’ with soft toys and books under the pews as well as a large book basket under the front pew. Additionally, Worship Boxes are provided and include a variety of ways to engage with the service, sometimes just by keeping small hands busy. The blue carpet near the altar is expressly offered as a soft space for little ones to move around and play.

There are also opportunities for children to participate in and lead worship, including the Christmas Pageant, the Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) pancake supper and liturgy, Palm Sunday and Easter, Pentecost, Arts Camp Sunday, the Blessing of the Backpacks, St Francis Day Blessing of the Animals, and more.

Nursery - We offer nursery care for babies and toddlers during the 9:30am service. Care is provided by our trained youth aged 16 and older with the Family Minister's oversight.

Godly Play - for preschool through early elementary school children during the Liturgy of the Word (the first part of the service, which includes readings and the sermon). Children return to worship at the exchange of The Peace, before communion.

Sunday School - Following communion, all school-age children are invited to gather for Sunday School. Biblical storytelling, activities, and service projects are offered for an hour while parents are free to socialize with other adults and/or attend a Forum faith formation session or parenting conversation.

Godly Play and Sunday School are offered during the school year, with a break at Christmas. Currently, Sunday School meets 2 Sundays a month, while Godly Play and the Nursery are offered every week.

Arts Camp is offered every Summer to grade school children from across the community. A gently faith and social justice based week of exploration around a central theme includes visual art with a variety of modalities, plus music, movement, and drama. It all culminates with the Campers’ offering to their families at St B’s 9:30 service on the following Sunday. Recent themes have included: Saints and Holy Helpers, Interfaith Peace and Spirituality, EcoJustice and The Olympic Village.

ARTS CAMP 2017 * July 24-28, 9am-3pm and Sunday, July 30 at the 9:30 service. Theme Christmas in July! Email tina.clark@stbdenver.org for more information. ALL ARE WELCOME.
